We bet everyone knows of Phuket. Β Famous as a beach destination itself, Phuket is also used by many travellers as a “base” to travel to small islands nearby. Β While day trips to Similan and Phi Phi Islands seem to be the first options for tourists, we frequently make visits to a smaller and less well-known paradise.
It’s “Maiton” island, and it can be exclusively visited by Love Andaman‘s one-day excursion only.
WHY MAITON ISLAND?
- It is only 15-20 mins away from Phuket Deep Sea Port on a speedboat.
- It’s a private island and therefore is not flooded with tourists. Β No one is permitted to stay over night. Β
- It’s underwater world is still rich with coral, fish and sea animals due to the low number of visitors.
- It’s home to many dolphins-no joke! Β If you are lucky you may spot a few–we saw some but they were swimming too fast!
- Same with reef sharks (see them right at the end of this post’s video).
Make sure you check out our video below to see some highlights of Maiton island!

After a morning snorkelling session, lunch was served. Β It was some seriously impressive buffet with meat, poultry and seafood dishes. Β Everything was delicious (really!), especiallyΒ the grilled prawns and squids which were caught on the day. Β We were surprised by the number of tea and coffee options, but we decided to go for their ice-blended coffee and cocoa which were great for cooling us down.
Maiton island also has a viewpoint which is, for some reason, always pretty empty! Β Every time we walk up there we seem to have the whole place to ourselves. Β It is only a few minutes walk up hill, and it’s a good way to burn off a bit of that buffet!
And of course, more snorkelling.
