Club Med Tomamu Ski-In Ski-Out Resort (All-Inclusive) | HOKKAIDO – JAPAN
In the previous winter season, we had a long trip in Japan dedicated to snowboarding.Β Amongst few the places we stayed during the trip was Club Med Tomamu, one of Club Med’s newest 4* large scale resorts located in Hokkaido–Japan’s top destination for winter sport.
Mount Tomamu is a new ski area in the Hidaka mountain range in Hokkaido.Β Having the perfect Japan dry powder that all skiers and boarders dream of, Mount Tomamu has an elevation of 1,239mΒ andΒ a total ski course length of 21.3 KmΒ with 28 pistes, 5 lifts and 1 gondola.

ABOUT THE RESORT
The design concept of Club Med Tomamu is modern urban meets traditional Japanese style.Β CraftedΒ byΒ Jean Philippe Nuel,Β an award-winning architect and designer, this resort is perfect for family with kids, honeymoon couples as well as a group of friends seeking adventures and outdoor activities.
ACCOMMODATION
There are a total of 341 rooms and suites, and we stayed in a comfortable Deluxe room.Β With its sofa bed, this room can host up to 5 guests (children we believe…or really tiny people with short legs.).
The room has all the basic essentials we needed, as well asΒ a bath tub–we all know a hot bath is needed after a few long days out on the mountain!
DINING
Like all other Club Med resorts, guests have an access to free-flow alcoholic beverages all day.Β Another thing which makes Club Med Tomamu reallyΒ special: the extraordinary full-board buffet 3 times a day!
All Club Med offers buffet for all meals, but TomamuΒ offers a bigger scale of buffet with much more varieties of dishes.Β Premium wagyu beef, Fresh Alaskan king crab and other seafood and sushi, someΒ Genghis Khan lamb dishes (apparently it’s a thing in Hokkaido!) and, seriously, some of the best Margherita pizzas we have ever had.
The main dining hall itself has 4 themed seating areas: Bucolic Valley, Farmhouse, Sea of clouds, and Rays of sun, with the Unkai Terrace (available in summer only)
BAR & ENTERTAINMENT
Now, let’s move on to another area guests will be spending a lot of their time at.
The main bar and theatre area is very spacious with high ceiling, bright, colourful, fun and elegant at the same time.Β After-dinner entertainment programme changes and rotates daily, so the guest won’t see the same show twice! (Unless they stay for an extra long period).
SKIING/SNOWBOARDING & LESSONS
Mount TomamuΒ has a total course length of 21.3 Km.Β There are 28 courses, 5 lifts and 1 gondola only.Β The ski-range, however, is really not flooded with people like in some of Japan’s super famous ranges (Niseko, etc.)
Club Med Tomamu offers Burton ski and snowboard rental at an additional charge, but the standard hotel package covers pretty much everything else including the mountain/ski passes and ski/snowboard lessons by experienced in-house instructors.
In Tomamu, skiers and boarders are not allowed to go out of bound of off-pisteΒ unlessΒ they have received anΒ EXPERT-ONLY POWDER AREAΒ arm band.Β Advanced skiers and boarders who wish to enter this area areΒ required to sign the waiver and agreementΒ and they must be wearing helmets and armbands at all times.Β Arm bands must be returned to the registration desk by 15.30hrs of each day.
The off-piste area on Mont Tomamu is gorgeous and the snow condition is great–so GO FOR IT!
ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES / SERVICES
Mina Mina Beach
All guests have free access to Mina Mina beach, the largest indoor beach style swimming pool in Asia.
There are also outdoor onsen separately for men and women at Mina Mina beach.Β We could stare out into the woods watching the light fluffy snow flakes fall while relaxing in the hot, rejuvenating onsen.Β Obviously we did not take any photos inside the onsen…as we didn’t want to get arrested…
Fitness & Outdoor Activities
Fitness room, yoga classes, snow trekking and snow sledding for all guest free of charge.
Guests can take free shuttle buses to the Ice Village and enjoy the ice bar as well as a large size outdoor ice skating ring (additional costs may apply).
Haku Speciality Restaurant
If you love Japanese barbecue, you might like spend one evening here.Β Haku ensures all their selections served to guests are prepared with the best ingredients and paired with the most suitable side dishes.
In summary, this is a fantastic place to stay during your winter holiday especially if you love snowboarding.Β One thing you need to be aware of is the fact that there aren’t really any shops or restaurants in the nearby area.Β We recommend you stop and buy whatever you need to get before you head to Club Med Tomamu (though the boutique shop has most of the essentials we needed).
